AH Prayzah’s camp insists they won’t submit entries for Zimbabwean music and arts merit awards anymore, as a matter of policy. The multiple award-winner’s manager, Keen Mushapaidze, made the announcement last Friday, which divided opinions. He made the revelation shortly after the announcement of the ZIMA 2020 nominees where they were not placed on the list. ‘‘Jah Prayzah does not submit for awards consideration is the phrase. But all the same, well done to all the nominees and we wish each and everyone the best. “Hard work should be supported all the time, Thank you Zima,” posted the manager. Many of his followers have been questioning whether they undermined the local music and merit awards, which the manager dismissed. &ldquo
SOUL Jah Love was a man of the people whose legacy must be nourished for eternity, a family spokesperson has said. The Conquering Family boss succumbed to diabetes on February 16 last year aged 31. He was declared a liberation hero owing to his influence through music. And almost a year after his death, Chibaba’s impact is still being strongly felt both locally and beyond. So popular was Chibaba’s music and influence that some critics have already concluded he died with Zimdancehall and carried it into his grave. Others, especially the neutrals, feel the void the “Ndini Uya-Uya” hit-maker left, will remain irreplaceable for years to come. As such, his family has lined up a memorial service on February 19 at Number 311 B Churchill Road in Prospect, Wa

veteran musician Zex Manatsa was laid to rest at Warren Hills cemetery in Harare yesterday next to another legend, George “Mastermind” Shaya. About 100 mourners clad mainly in black attended the burial at the legend’s section. The late Manatsa, who succumbed to “multiple myeloma” cancer after suffering from the condition for six months, was awarded a State assisted funeral. Eulogies from friends, family and musicians at home and burial site described the late musician as a person who was humble, positive to life, a unifier and a helper. ZANU PF Member of Parliament for Uzumba, Simbaneuta Mudarikwa who was part of the organising team for the late Manatsa’s wedding in 1979 said he had very positive attitude towards life. “I met the
TODAY marks exactly three years to the day legendary music icon and national hero Dr Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi breathed his last. The revered and highly decorated musician died at the age of 66, and had the same number of albums under his belt. Many knew him as a gifted international music star, whose compositions were both soulful and poignant. However, a lot of things that happened off-stage such as his supposed “secret” love affairs were usually the staple of the country’s rumour mill. Always the conservative type, Tuku was careful, rather too obsessive, about the information of his personal life that was fed to the public. For instance, he never responded to reports that he sired children out of wedlock. Raising the issue during interviews often meant a prema
Singer and record producer Sanii Makhalima is backing Nelson Chamisa to become the next president of Zimbabwe. CLASS IN SESSION: CATEGORY IS: STRENGTH AND CONFIDENCE _________________________________________________🏆 Strength and Confidence makes people uncomfortable. And being a woman doesnt make it any easier. I think every strong woman in history has had to walk down a similar path, and i think its the strength that causes all the confusion and the fear. Why is she not giving up, why is she so confident, why does she carry herself with so much poise and grace, why does she keep fighting, why is she not being broken and staying down? Why is she STRONG? Where does she get it from? Where is she taking this strength to and where is she going to use it? Strength makes people uncomfortable with who you are and the great potential in you. Humans can be weak. They want what they can control
It was colourful and splendiferous! Everything went by the script and those who were not invited were left green with envy. If nothing extremely exquisite happens within the next 11 months, it might as well pass as the greatest lobola event of 2022. Laugh out loud! Well, the couple painted the town green. According to social media fanatics the event has already been touted as the best to happen in 2022 so far, because of the A-list guests, the theme, the decorum, a hodgepodge of flashy cars and the cake. Well, green was the main theme for the much talked about “lobola celebrations” of Zimbabwean fashion designer and entrepreneur Daniella Allen and Nigerian business mogul Igho Ubiribo, affectionately known as “Tiny” in the celebrity world. Britain’s Natural History Museum (NHM) said it was not sure if the skulls of a former Zimbabwean spiritual leader, Mbuya Nehanda, and several chiefs who were killed during the First Chimurenga were in its galleries. The First Chimurenga was a Ndebele-Shona revolt against the British South Africa Company’s administration that took place in 1896-97. Recently a group of Zimbabweans, including others from the diaspora, organised what they called the #Bringbackourbones campaign. They held several protests over that last month demanding the return of the remains of the spiritual leaders. The NHM is believed to be keeping more than 20,000 human remains collected during the peak of colonial wars in Africa. They are displayed as war trophies in Britain. Stefan Sima
